In 2018, the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies offers no research funding to new doctoral students!

In recent years the Graduate School asked for applications in summer for positions starting in the winter semester.

You are eligible to apply if you hold a relevant master’s or equivalent degree with a very good overall grade. In addition, your research project should be related to East or Southeast Europe, to one of our three research areas, and to a discipline in which supervision can be offered by us. Our school has two working languages: English and German.

For further information please consult the pages about the doctoral programme and our FAQ section on this website carefully. If you still have unanswered questions, you may contact our administrative offices via email. Please refrain from inquiries regarding the status of your application. You will receive an email or letter indicating whether you have been invited for an interview.

Students and graduates from abroad who would like to get acquainted with the particularities of a PhD application procedure in Germany are encouraged to participate in our annual preparatory workshop prior to the call for applications. Please note that participation in this workshop is not a prerequisite for application to our doctorate programme.
