[Conference Munich] Looking for the National Dream. Austro-Hungarian Migrants in the Americas in Comparative Perspectives

The international conference "Looking for the National Dream. Austro-Hungarian Migrants in the Americas in Comparative Perpectives" will take place on July 13 and 14, 2017 in the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. Organizers are the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies and the CAS in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg.

The conference will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Ulf Brunnbauer, Speaker of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies and Managing Director of the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg, and Prof. Dr. Ursula Prutsch, Professor for American Cultural History at the America-Institute at LMU München.

The event is among others initiated by the CAS Research Focus "Representing Migration" of which the members of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies Prof. Dr. Christopher Balme, Prof. Dr. Burcu Dogramaci, Prof. Dr. Christoph K. Neumann and Prof. Dr. Martin Schulze Wessel are part of. The Research Focus "Representing Migration" describes the topic of migration and memory as a field of research that is to be approached in a processual, interdisciplinary manner, and that should be understood not so much through the construction of identities based on comparison with and distinction from others, but rather through the forms of representation and presentation as well as the presentation strategies of migrants and those in exile.
