International Exchange

Our Graduate School is a lively meeting place for established and junior researchers from Germany and abroad. We provide a forum for intensive discussions, concrete research projects and overarching theoretical and methodological questions relating to area studies.

An important point of international exchange is the summer school which we organises annually together with one of our partner universities.

Exchange visits

The cooperation agreements with our partner universities facilitate the exchange of doctoral students. Our doctoral students can spend up to two semesters abroad. In addition to our partners, our doctoral students can also benefit from the extensive network of Erasmus partnerships of the LMU Munich and the Universität Regensburg. While staying at a foreign university, they use local libraries and archives and make contact with other researchers.

We support the cotutelle programme, in which a doctorate is awarded jointly by the LMU Munich or the Universität Regensburg and an international partner university.

Doctoral students at partner universities can apply to come on an exchange visit to Munich or Regensburg. Visiting students take part in our academic programme. Additionally, they benefit from the dynamic atmosphere surrounding research on Eastern and Southeastern Europe in Munich and Regensburg.

Visiting fellows

We regularly invite international visting scholars to Munich and Regensburg. During their stay in Bavaria, they have time for their own research and are also invited to contribute to our academic programme.
