The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies uses this website and its social network sites to inform you about our activities, our research and our teaching.

Communication

The basis for the communication and the choice of the communication service provider will be based on your consent in accordance with Art. 6 GDPR. Many of these tasks are listed in Art. 2 Bavarian University and College Act (BUCA).

When you communicate a concern, request or opinion via email, post, telephone, fax, e-government portal solutions, in conversation or through social media, the information provided or our notes are used for the purpose of processing the request as well as for possible follow-up questions and for the exchange of views and if necessary forwarded to relevant parties. If we answer you, we will use the same means of communication unless you wish to change it.

Mail, emails, and social media posts and messages that you have not publicly submitted to us are typically reviewed at the end of the year of receipt every two years to see if further retention of your questions is necessary for possible follow-up requests. Your data, if no longer necessary, is limited in processing and kept in accordance with the statutory retention requirements and consideration of the archival law.

Obligation to provide information

If you do not provide us with the necessary data for the fulfillment of the contract, we cannot process the contract.

Right of withdrawal

If consent to the processing of your data is given, you can revoke your consent formlessly by informing us at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing up to the point of revocation of consent.

Right of objection

On the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR, you have the right at any time, for reasons arising out of your particular situation, to object the processing of personal data relating to you. You can file an objection pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR. We will cease the processing of your personal information, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for processing that outweigh your interests, rights and freedoms, or if the processing is for the purpose of enforcing, pursuing or defending legal claims.

Website in general

In accordance with Art. 6 GDPR, Art. 2 BayHSchG and Art. 4 BayEGovG on our websites we offer services and information for the public about our activities. We use cookies, statistics and log files to compile statistics for checking or maintaining our web service and for ensuring network and information security in accordance with Art. 6 GDPR and Art. 6 BDPA. As far as the processing purpose is not impaired, we anonymise or pseudonymise personal data.

Administration and Editing

For the purpose of administration and editing, function identifier and personal identifiers with access protection mechanisms are created and changes, which are made with these identifiers, are logged.

Personalized administration and editorial access to our website will be restricted in processing after the person leaves and will be deleted one year after the end of the year at the time of departure.

Log files

As a website operator, the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies takes the protection of your data very seriously. The Graduate School always treats your personal data confidentially and in accordance with legal regulations, in particular in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR) and the Bavarian Data Protection Act (BDPA). Keep in mind that there might be security gaps when transmitting data on the internet. Full protection against access by strangers is not possible.

Every time you access our website, our web servers temporarily store the following information in a log file:

  • IP address of the requesting computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name, URL and and amount of data up-/downloaded from the website
  • State of access (requested file transfer, not found, etc.)
  • Identification data of the browser and operating system used (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)
  • Website from which access was made (if provided by the requesting web browser)

The processing of the data in this log file occurs as follows:

  • The log entries are constantly automatically evaluated in order to detect attacks on the web server and to be able to react accordingly.
  • In individual cases, i.e. for reported malfunctions, errors and security incidents, a manual analysis is performed.
  • Log entries that are older than seven days are anonymized by shortening the IP address.
  • The anonymized logs are used to create access statistics. The software used for this purpose is operated locally by the Leibniz Computer Center (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.

The IP addresses incorporated in the log entries are not combined with other data stocks by the LRZ, so that the LRZ cannot draw any conclusions about individual persons.

We do not use any kind of user tracking.

Personal data that you may receive via contact forms, registration forms and similar websites on our web servers will only be accepted with your consent and will be used for the purpose stated on the forms only. Please note the relevant information on the forms.

Newsletter via MailChimp

The Graduate School uses the service provider Mailchimp to send the electronic newsletter that is integrated in this website. For that purpose, your name and email address will be transferred to Mailchimp (see Mailchimp's data protection notice). The Graduate School uses your data only for the purpose of sending the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time - either by clicking here "unsubscribe", by clicking the "unsubscribe here" button in the confirmation email that you received earlier or by clicking "unsubscribe from this list" and then "I no longer want to receive these emails" in the bottom menu of any newsletter email sent to you via this service.

Social Media

As part of our public relations and research, teaching and artistic freedom, we create content and encourage our community to contribute to and interact. Our aim is to inform the target group and to exchange information with you.

Content, contributions and requests that violate the rights of third parties or that meet the facts of a criminal offense, do not comply with legal or contractual obligations, we disclose by submitting them to the respective authority or the social media provider and block or delete them.

The legal basis for data processing on our social media offers and elements is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 GDPR.

Social media posts and messages that you have not publicly submitted to us will be reviewed every two years to see if they still need to store your follow-up requests. Your data, if no longer necessary, is limited in processing and still stored in accordance with the statutory retention requirements and in accordance with the archival law.

If you have communicated to us with the knowledge of the public or parts of it via social media, you can decide on the duration of the publication yourself or ask us for deletion. We delete these data under consideration of the archive right within our area of ​​responsibility. If, after the deletion, we still have copies of the data, these will be limited in processing and will still be stored in accordance with the statutory retention requirements and in accordance with the archive law.
