CV:

Born in 1962. Major in Ottoman History and Turkish Literature, Minors in Modern German Literature and Political Science (LMU Munich). Exchange year at Ege Üniversitesi, Izmir.

Magister Artium (1987) and graduation as Dr. phil. (1992) at LMU München. Stays at Orient Institute Istanbul (researcher), the Czech National Library (DFG scholarship), Technical University Istanbul and Bilgi University Istanbul (lecturer). Habilitation (doçentlik) in early modern and modern history (2006). Teaching activity at Charles University Prague and Boğaziçi University Istanbul. Since 2008 Professor of Turkology (Turkish Studies) at the Institute for the Near and Middle East at LMU Munich.

- President of the Society for Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies
