Curriculum Vitae

Born in Novosibirsk. After completing her degree in General linguistics, Sinology, Japanology and Russian Studies at the Novosibirsk State University she enrolled in a PhD programme at the Moscow State University. Habilitation in Mongolistics at the Institute of Mongolian Studies and Tibetology, Ulaan-Ude. Since 1985, after their first expedition to the Ob-Ugric peoples of Khanty-Mansi, her work has concentrated on these languages ​​because, in their sociolinguistic situation, they belong to the category of "highly endangered languages". Since 2001, professor and director of the Institute of Finno-Ugric/ Uralic Studies  at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.
