Curriculum Vitae

Born in Heidelberg. Studied Japanese Studies, Sinology as well as Medieval and Modern History in Heidelberg and Kyôto. PhD in Japanese Studies at the University of Heidelberg, habilitation at the University of Zurich. Visiting fellow at the German Institute of Japanese Studies in Tôkyô and Kôbe. Since 2002 professor of Japanese Studies at the Japan Center of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich.
