Born in Frankfurt am Main. Chinese, Mongolian and Turkic Studies, philosophy at the University of Hamburg, 1992 Dr. phil. in Chinese Studies (University of Hamburg), 1998 Habilitation (University of Hamburg). Since October 1998 Professor for Chinese Studies at the LMU.
