Summer School

Each year our Graduate School organises a week-long summer school in (South-)Eastern Europe. The summer school is usually hosted in collaboration with a local university department and it is open to doctoral students from both the Graduate School, the local university and other partner institutions.

The topics of the summer school and the theoretical as well as methodological approaches discussed there are designed to complement the regular teaching that takes place during the lecture periods, such as theory and methodology seminars, study groups and colloquia.

In the small working groups, students look at themes within the context of area studies which have emerged from the regular work of the study groups or are otherwise considered to be of particular importance for the studies of all doctoral candidates. The Summer School programme is complemented by evening lectures from visiting academics and by excursions.

The summer school provides a forum for discussing fundamental questions related to our research programme. Hence, it helps to establish a common understanding of our academic profile.
