On Wednesday, 19 December 2018, the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies welcomes Jasmina Tumbas, PhD (Buffalo, NY) to its lecture series Colloquium in Munich. The event is part of the joint welcome ceremony with the Elite Graduate Program for East European Studies. Tumbas will give a talk on "Ethnic Roma in Fortress Europe: Art and Resistance Beyond Citizenship".
Jasmina Tumbas, PhD is Assistant Professor at the Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies of the University at Buffalo. In December 2018 and January 2019, Tumbas acts also as Visiting Research Fellow of the Graduate School in Munich.
Jasmina's research areas are feminist histories and theories of performance, body and conceptual art, art and activism, politics of contemporary visual culture, socialist film, gender and sexuality in Eastern Europe after WWII (with an emphasis on former Yugoslavia) and contemporary activist art practices by ethnic Roma in the Balkan region.
The welcome ceremony for the newly associated doctoral candidates of the Graduate School and the students of the 15th year of the Elite Graduate Program for East European Studies, which like the Graduate School is run jointly by Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität München and Universität Regensburg, will take place on Wednesday, December 19, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the "Library" of the Graduate School in Munich (Maria-Theresia-Str. 21).
Members of the Graduate School and the Elite Graduate Program, of partner universities and institutions may take part in the event upon prior notification.
