07.03.2019 at 00:00  – 08.03.2019 at 00:00

From 7 to 8 March 2019, the international workshop "Das Büro des Kaisers. Neuere Ansätze in der historisch-soziologischen Politikfeldanalyse" [The Emperor's Office: Recent Approaches in Historical-Sociological Policy Analysis] will be held at the "Center for Advanced Studies" at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich under the direction of Dr. Jana Osterkamp, Postdoc of the Graduate School and member of the CAS Young Center, and Prof. Dr. Peter Becker (Vienna), a current CAS Fellow.

The historical-sociological analysis of political research fields opens up new approaches to the political history of an epoch. The workshop presents and discusses the results of a comprehensive statistical evaluation of the governmental activity of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph (reign 1848-1916). Statistical methods should be linked with questions of a cultural history of decision-making.

Dr. Jana Osterkamp is a postdoc at the Graduate School. At the Collegium Carolinum, the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group (DFG) manages "Arranging Diversity, Federalism in the Habsburg Monarchy and its Successor States". Together with Peter Becker, she has also been the project leader of the D-A-CH research group "The Emperor's Desk: Place of Politics and Decision in the Habsburg Monarchy - Franz Joseph I and his Cabinet Office" since February 2018.

Prof. Dr. Peter Becker is a Professor of Austrian History at the University of Vienna with a focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. He is researching the subject of "Transforming statehood in the Habsburg monarchy and its successor states".

Other speakers and discussants include Clemens Ableidinger (Vienna), Peter Collin (Frankfurt am Main), Marion Dotter (Munich, Andreas Enderlin-Mahr (Vienna), Volker Hess (Berlin), Milan Hlavačka (Prague), Sandrine Kott (Geneva), Sophie Ledebur (Vienna), Michael Pammer (Linz), Ulrich Pfister (Münster), Frithjof Benjamin Schenk (Basel), Wolfram Siemann (Munich), Tatjana Tönsmeyer (Wuppertal), Nadja Weck (Vienna), Roland Wenzelhuemer (Munich), Jan Županič (Prague).
