Ways out of the Deadlock?
The Foundations of Regime and Opposition Politics in Belarus
04.12.2020
The political options of the embattled Belarusian autocrat Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the opposition movement depend on national and international conditions. What was the basis of Lukashenka's relative popularity? What caused the loss of his legitimacy? Can the opposition movement draw sustainable political legitimacy from the popularity it currently enjoys among Belarusians? Can international actors break the deadlock between the President and protesters?
Four experts on Belarusian and East European politics and history will discuss these questions in a webinar on 4 December 2020 at 18:00 (Central European time):
- Dr. Siarhei Bohdan, Research Associate and Lecturer, Friedrich Meinecke Institute, FU Berlin and Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations
- Prof. Dr. Petra Stykow, Professor of Comparative Politics (Eurasia / Central and Eastern Europe), LMU Munich
- Dr. Viachaslau Yarashevich, Humboldt Fellow at the Department of Sociology, LMU Munich
- Chair: Prof. Dr. Martin Schulze Wessel, Chair of the History of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, LMU Munich
Registration is not required. The webinar will be held in English.
