Workshop Changing Linguistic Landscapes in Eastern Europe, July 4, 2014 at the University of Regensburg

The workshop caters for prospective applicants for the PhD-program of the Graduate School for East and South East European Studies, which have master degree in Linguistics (or will attain such before August 24, 2014), and who are interested in pursuing PhD-research projects connected with Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in the fields of Slavic, Finno-Ugric and Turkic (or Yiddish) languages and linguistics, and to research projects related to language contact, diachronic and synchronic perspectives to linguistic areas, minority languages, language planning and transnational language policies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

The one-day workshop will provide an overview of the structure of the Graduate School and its interdisciplinary profile and will instruct participants in the preparation of a well-targeted doctoral research project for the next application round, which will start on 1st July, 2014 and end on 24th August, 2014. The workshop session will be supervised by Björn Hansen (professor of Slavic languages at the University of Regensburg) and Petar Kehayov (senior researcher at the Graduate School). After the workshop, the participants will have an opportunity to attend one of the regular colloquiums of the Graduate School for East and South East European Studies.

Successful applicants will be reimbursed for their travel expenses and accommodation costs.
