11.06.2015

The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies in Munich welcomes Rotem Kower, Professor of Japanese History and Culture, as a new Visiting Research Fellow.

Professor Kowner is joining us now until mid-July and he will return for several weeks in early 2016; during his stay he is going to collaborate with the LMU-Lehrstuhl für Russland-/Asienstudien of Prof. Dr. Andreas Renner, in particular. Rotem Kowner has been working for the University of Haifa in Israel since 1998. In 2013 he was appointed as full professor. Rotem Kowner has published several important studies e.g. about the Russo-Japanese War. At present he is examining questions of racism and the evolution of Western views of the Japanese "race" and body, and the Japanese response until the end of the twentieth century.
