Collaboration and Collaborators in Ukraine During the Second World War: Between Myth and Memory

An essay by Dr. Mykola Borovyk, a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School for Eastern and Southeast European Studies in Munich, entitled "Collaboration and Collaborators in Ukraine During the Second World War: Between Myth and Memory," has just been published. It is part of the anthology Traitors, Collaborators and Deserters in Contemporary European Politics of Memory. Formulas of Betrayal." The book was edited by Gelinada Grinchenko and Eleonora Narvselius as part of the series "Palgrave Macmillan Memory Studies".

The 16 essays in the volume deal with concepts of betrayal that have emerged in connection with memory and memory politics from the perspectives of different disciplines.

Content of the Volume

This volume offers a multidisciplinary approach to formulating and imposition of "formulas for betrayal" as a result of changing memory politics in post-war Europe. The contributors, who specialize in history, sociology, anthropology, memory studies, media studies and cultural studies, discuss the exertion of political control over memory (including the selection, imposition, silencing or ideological "twisting" of facts) formulas for betrayal "in various cultural-political contexts, and the discursive framing of the subject for the purpose of legitimizing various memory regimes and ideologies.
