From 1 October 2016 to 30 September 2017, Dr. Jason Chandrinos was a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Guest Lecturer at the Historical Institute of Universität Regensburg and a Visiting Fellow of the Graduate School. The Greek historian had been invited by Proessor Dr Rainer Liedtke, principal investigator of the Graduate School. Chandrinos graduated from the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens and defended his PhD in 2015 in the same department. His thesis – entitled “Cities at War: European urban centers under Nazi occupation, 1939-1945” – entails a comparative study of Nazi occupation, everyday life and resistance in the european urban landscape. He has published the book “The People’s Punishing Arm: The history of ELAS and OPLA in occupied Athens, 1942-1944” about the armed communist resistance in Athens during the Occupation, that was based on his MA thesis. From 2007 to 2015 he worked as a special researcher at the research group called “Workshop for modern jewish history of greek judaism” for the Jewish Museum of Greece (JMG). Since 2016 he is engaged in the Greek-German research project "Memories of the Occupation in Greece". His research interests are focused on the German occupation of Greece, the Nazi persecution, and the Holocaust in Greece as well as on the contemporary history of Jews in Greece and on resistance movements in Athens.
