Profile

Ivaylo Ditchev is Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the Department of History and Theory of Culture at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and publishes the online journal Семинар_BG [= Seminar BG]. In November and December 2018 he is Visiting Research Fellow of the Graduate School in Regensburg.

Ditchev conducts research on political anthropology, the media and the city. His last book is titled "Culture as Distance: Eleven Essays in Cutural Anthropology" (Sofia 2016). Ditchev is actively involved in the public debate; i.a. he writes columns for Deutsche Welle.

As Visiting Research Fellow of the Graduate School, he works on the project "Shame and Pride in the City: Emotional Topography and the New Populism" in Regensburg. On November 15, 2018, Ditchev spoke at the colloquium about "Politics of Visibility: Reinventing the Postcommunist City through Festive Events".
