Berenika Szymanski-Düll studied Dramaturgy, Slavic Philology and Intercultural Communication at the Bavarian Theater Academy and the LMU in Munich. Afterwards she did her PhD about the theatricality of Polish opposition movements in the 1980s. About the negotiation of public in the decade of Solidarnosc “Theatrical protest and Poland's way to 1989. About the negotiation of public in the decade of Solidarnosc” is the title of her dissertation. From 2011-2012, Berenika Szymanski-Düll worked as a research associate at the University of Bayreuth. Until 2013 she then was a postdoc at the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies in Munich. Here she held the position of postdoc spokesperson and equal opportunities officer. Since October 2015 she is Academic Councillor at the Institute for Theater Studies of the LMU and Affiliated Researcher of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies.

Berenika Szymanski-Düll held a scholarship of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and took part in the PhD program "Aufbruch 1989" of the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung. From 2011-2013 she has been fellow of the program "Talente sichern – Zukunft gestalten" (Cusanuswerk/BMBF). Since 2013 she has been mentee of the mentoring program within the framework of LMUexcellent. Berenika Szymanski-Düll is a member of the DFG network "Aktionskunst jenseits des Eisernen Vorhangs" and the Center for Global Theater Histories. Since 2016 she is editor of the Forum Modernes Theater.
