Dr. Matthias Morys is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of York (UK). He earned a Ph.D. (2006) from the London School of Economics and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oxford prior to coming to York. He was academic advisor to the South-East European central banks in their recent efforts to document their monetary histories from political independence to World War II, and he is the editor of the “Economic history of Central, East and South-East Europe, 1800 to the present day” (Routledge, forthcoming 2020). He currently works on long-term income differences between Western and Eastern Europe as well as financial supervision in South-East Europe in historical perspective.
